Rune Lore
Note: Birla’s fantasy style of rune-reading is a lot like alethiometer reading from His Dark Materials. Each rune has several potential meanings, and you have to deeply study them and/or have a supernatural ability in order to understand what they are trying to say, individually and in combination. Birla is a little of both :)
A primer from Birla:
1. There are certain runes that are recognized primarily by Felvargs from mainland Ulfrheim, and other runes that are primarily recognized by Felvargs from Jörmungandr. Birla believes this means the Jörmungandr runes are leftovers from human civilization on the islands, and the Ulfrheim runes have existed only since the mainland Felvargs forgot their human origins - so they created their own system of meaning.
2. The Jörmungandr runes have known names, but the Ulfrheim runes do not. Birla intends to discover them through rigorous study and research.
3. Where meanings are shared between Jörmungandr and Ulfrheim runes, each rune appears more often in readings for Felvargs from their respective islands, so Birla finds it can be prudent and expedient to offer Felvargs readings using curated sets prioritizing local runes.
4. Certain runes are strongly associated with certain Felvargs, in a way that alters, adds to, or contextualizes the inherent meanings of the runes themselves.
5. Felvargs may have certain runes related to them, in a fixed but somewhat flexible way. The runes don't change over time, but what they mean about a Felvarg may differ depending on the individual.

Birla has been studying runes since she was a young pup, with the help of various mentors across Ulfrheim and Jörmungandr.
